Today the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia has held a masterclass given by Alessandro Comodin, the director of The Adventures of Gigi The Law and winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 75^th Locarno Film Festival. The class saw the participation of first-year students of film directing, screenwriting, editing, sound engineering, and cinematography courses, with the presence of assistant director Giulio Squarci. Alessandro Comodin discussed the major phases of his professional career, supported by Giulio Squarci’s firsthand accounts. According to Comodin’s poetics, freedom and precision should coexist in harmony, conducting a very personal research on reality: “The more powerful the freedom, the more precise the aesthetics of the framing.” Released yesterday, February 9, in Italian theatres, The Adventures of Gigi The Law was produced by Okta Film, Idéale Audience, and Michigan Films in collaboration with Rai Cinema and is distributed by Okta Film in collaboration with Barz & Hippo and Start. It shortlisted as best documentary at the 2023 David di Donatello Awards and in the category “Cinema del reale” - documentaries at the Silver Ribbons/Nastri d’Argento. The film also won selection for the “Racconti italiani” documentaries presented by FICE, the Italian federation of arthouse cinemas.

Alessandro Comodin
Alessandro Comodin studied film in Brussels. He lives in Paris but shoots his films where he grew up, in rural Friuli, Italy. He wrote and directed Summer of Giacomo, Happy Times Will Come Soon, and the short Fiori bianchi.

Gigi is a rural traffic officer. One day, a young woman throws herself under a train. Apparently, there is a pattern here. Therefore, Gigi begins to investigate the suicides and steps in a strange world between reality and fantasy, where a garden can also be a jungle, while a cop can keep a smile on his face and his heart open to love.
