Ebook
An eBook is a book publication made available in digital format that can be viewed on computers and mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets and other devices that are specifically designed to read long texts in digital format, called eReaders.
The Library’s catalogue features 4 types of eBooks:
eBooks that can be read directly at the library via Kindle devices.
Unrestricted PDF FREE eBooks, which can be freely downloaded on all devices and are available indefinitely until they are deleted.
STREAMING eBooks which can be viewed online via an internet connection.
EPUB eBooks which are protected with Adobe DRM (Kindle devices do not support Adobe DRM protection, therefore they cannot be used to read these eBooks).
How to borrow an eBook protected with Adobe DRM
(Digital loans of commercial eBooks are available for library members only)
- Go to www.adobe.it and create a free Adobe account by clicking on “Sign in” (top right of the screen): this will allow you to manage your digital library and enable multiple devices to read protected eBooks. You will still be able to read the eBook without an Adobe ID, but only on the device you first open it on.
- – If you do not already have one, download and install a DRM-compatible eBook reading app, such as Adobe Digital Editions for PC/MAC (if you use Linux you can install Adobe Digital Edition via Wine) and Bluefire or Aldiko for smartphones and tablets. Authorise the app with your Adobe ID (if you created one).
- Search the catalogue for the book you are interested in. Log in to access the service.
- Click on “eBook Loan”.
- Download the chosen eBook by opening the file that has been saved on your reading device (you will also find the download link in “Your space > My reader status” and in the e-mail you will receive).
- Now you can read your eBook, which will be available to you for 14 days, starting from the loan registration date (this time limit applies to all devices that are linked to the same ID, such as your pc, smartphone or tablet).
