The book pays tribute to the great director Carlo Lizzani and to that extraordinary season of Italian cinema and literature that was Neorealism. By retracing the plot of the film “Cronache di poveri amanti” (Chronicle of Poor Lovers) 1954, directed by Lizzani, the author allows for a better understanding of the social and cultural environment in Italy between the Forties and the Fifties. This volume is enriched by an unpublished essay by Carlo Lizzani, a memoir by director Giuliano Montaldo and a photographic apparatus with previously unseen pictures.
