Le Moniteur de la mode
Published in Paris in 1843, illustrated with magnificent color boards curated by the artist Jules David who developed the composition of the images through the use of interesting backgrounds. The scenes reproduced thus acquired a more avowedly scenic aspect, as if to simulate real conversation pieces : the models were in fact portrayed in different environments – gardens embellished with pergolas of roses or interiors particularly studied in detail, such as bedrooms and dining rooms – in attitudes of feminine grace and delicacy, engaged in imaginary dialogues. The American version of the magazine has been titled “The monitor of fashion” and has been published in New York between 1853 and 1854.
